Alta Vista Elementary School

Magnum performed this project as a Design Build / Construction Manager at Risk. This project included a complete renovation of the 18,000 square foot Media Center over the summer break (9-weeks). The renovation included removing all interior finishes, electrical and HVAC and replacing with all new electrical.

Magnum Builders provided pre-construction services for this project. Initial estimates in the pre-schematic phase alerted the School Board of Sarasota Construction Services to a budget constraint on the scope of work intended for the project.  The scope was developed to meet the revised budget and to allow for a very short construction schedule.

This project was the most aggressive schedule of any Design/Build projects completed by the Magnum Team for the SBSC to date.  The task was to gut and rebuild 18,000 SF of interior space in what essentially amounted to 9 workweeks.  The Team met weekly with the Construction Services, Facilities Managers, and Principal and Staff for 9 weeks leading up to the start of the work.  Permitting and bidding were conducted simultaneously.

This project addressed an aging media and classroom building at the Alta Vista Elementary School that was originally constructed with demountable partitions.  The Facilities Services Department developed this project to provide new finishes and some layout changes to the school.  Also, the scope of work included the provision of more soundproof classes.  Particularly, the Music Room was a problem due to having only partition type walls and no sound insulation.  All new secondary wiring and electrical fixtures were provided.  The Building contained no handicap accessible restrooms, therefore 3 were constructed.
