The project consisted of the demolition of the existing facility, construction of a new 3 story structure with Bunk Rooms, Apparatus Bays, Dispatch office, meeting rooms, exercise room, and full commercial kitchen. The Project a LEED Silver target. LEED materials and construction methods were incorporated and documented by Magnum during the project. This was Sarasota Counties' first LEED Fire station seeking certification and provided a learning curve for future design and sustainability elements on other County projects.
Magnum Builders provided competitive pricing that was 4% lower than the next qualified bidder. Magnum was contracted for the construction of the project while the final permitting steps were being completed with the City of Sarasota. An engineering review determined, at the last minute, that significant utility changes were required. Magnum worked diligently without requesting general condition delay costs and assisted Sarasota County and The Civil Engineering group to make the adjustments with minimal impact to the project cost.
The construction site was located in the very densely developed area of St Armands Circle on Lido Key. There was a great amount of planning to allow this 3 story structure to be constructed in such a congested and busy area. Work was scheduled around retail events so as to not impact the experience of the local and tourist shoppers and event attendees in this popular area. The project was completed successfully on time.
