This project included a 6,200-square-foot, outdoor plaza overlooking Lemon Bay that can be used for Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies as well as ceremonies by families of veterans who want to reserve it. The outdoor plaza includes pervious and permeable pavers with a stormwater retention vault underneath along with solar powered lighting. Also included are bronze plaques for each branch of the military with benches and flag poles. The project encompassed a 2,900-square-foot “Freedom Pavilion” that features a green roof irrigated with a cistern, polished colored concrete, a 1,600-square-foot picnic pavilion with restrooms, 29 parking spaces, a bicycle rack and an information kiosk. The parking area was built with permeable pavers including another storm retention vault underneath. This project also consisted of bioretention ponds, landscape, irrigation, and coastal vegetation restoration. The project site was located directly adjacent to residential homes and was completed with no issues or complaints from the neighborhood. Magnum Builders were able to deliver this project over a month early so that the owner could open the park for Veteran’s Day 2014!
